COVID-19 Air Freight Information – Europe

European countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Greece and Spain have or will be implementing lockdown procedures in an effort to curb the infection rate of the COVID-19 Pandemic, with the strong possibility of other countries following shortly. There has also been a reduction in international passenger flight in and out of Europe.

As such, airfreight capacity has become considerably constrained with increases in airfreight rates due to the demand for space. We have been liaising with our partners and carriers in South Africa, monitoring the situation very closely, to manage the movement of import and export shipments. Our network partners are operational and mostly working remotely from home and maintain service levels for import and export volumes.

Despite the technology and communication tools available, there may be incidents where the movement of freight may be affected due to the restrictions imposed on transporters and ground handling agents in Europe.

Capacity and rates will be handled on a case by case basis with quoted rates subject to changes and will be verified at the time of booking with the carrier for validity. In light of this information, please plan accordingly with your local DDU Express office in order to manage your shipments and client expectations.
