Overview
When you start to ship freight at high volumes, it’s time to consider ocean freight. Here is your guide to everything ocean, from choosing the mode that’s right for you to calculating costs and transit times.
Our Ocean Freight staff attaches great importance to customizing the booking process for our customers. That’s why we strive to allocate the ocean freight mode that best suits your needs.
Like with airfreight, shipping goods can be consolidated to benefit the customer and reduce the price, this is known as LCL (Less Container Load). If you are shipping enough goods to fit into one container, or the goods are fragile or contain chemicals / liquids, it may be good to consider FCL shipment, Full Container Load
Containers and goods are delivered to a Container Freight Station or Container Yard for consolidation and loading onto the vessel, there are numerous tariffs and costs to consider when having goods shipped or importing goods from abroad. It all depends on the agreement with your supplier, will they just be delivering to their port, your terminal, your warehouse?
Be sure to know which incoterm relates to your shipping contract, so that the responsibility between yourself and the supplier is clear.
The Advantages of Ocean Freight
Cost Effective – transporting containers of goods by ship is one of the most cost effective forms of transport, which is a beneficial supply chain management aspect for any any business and can help keep the price of goods competitive for the end customer
Heavy or Sensitive goods – for items that are big or heavy, shipping via sea might be the only way to get goods overseas and shipping ports generally have large storage capabilities
Hazardous goods – Lithium batteries, or products containing power supplies transported via Ocean freight , we work with suppliers and shipping lines to ensure this commodity is the speedily shipped from China to RSA
Environmentally Friendly – ocean freight is the most environmentally friendly form of transport for cargo, which can help boost the customers brand and reputation

Types of Ocean Freight?!

(1) EXW, or Ex Works means the supplier transports the goods to the factory or manufacturer.
(2) FOB, or Free on Board, which delivers to the port or terminal in the country of the supplier.
